For the first time in the university’s history, UNBC has a United Way committee. Members include Sustainability Manager Kyrke Gaudreau, pine beetle researcher Art Fredeen, Assistant Director of Student Affairs Brenda Slomka, and Residence Life Coordinator Emily Gadzala. Together, they will work to promote the United Way on campus. At other Canadian universities, campuses are totally electrified by United Way giving campaigns. Because the United Way funds 23 charities in Prince George, the new committee believes their work will help connect the campus (and students) to many non-profits in the wider community. UNBC's United Way campaign kicked off Wednesday in the Wintergarden with a book sale. Campus station CFUR Radio was there spinning tunes. One in three northern British Columbians have benefited from a program or service powered by the United Way.
