As the 2016-17 season continues we remain committed to keeping you up to date on the success of our prospects on our 50-man player protected list. Not only are the Cougars leading the WHL with a 13-2-2-0 record this season, but the future is brighter than ever thanks to some great drafting and stellar evaluation which has strengthened the Cougars list. F – Edge Lambert (01 – Grande Prairie, AB) – Currently leads the Notre Dame Argos (SMAAAHL) in scoring with three goals and an assist. Not a bad start considering he’s one of the youngest player’s on his team and they are 1-9 on the season. You often learn lots about a player when he’s faced with adversity, and so far Lambert is showing that he can be trusted offensively. Last season in Bantam with the Notre Dame Hounds he had 20 goals and 24 assists for 44 points. He was drafted by the Cougars in the seventh round of the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft and made a strong first impression during Training Camp in 2016. D – Dylan Wells (00 – St. Albert, AB) – Through 10 games defenceman Dylan Wells has emerged as one of the offensive and defensive leaders for the Okanagan Hockey Academy’s Edmonton Midget Prep team. He has seven assists which puts him tied for second on the team in scoring and tied for second on the team among scoring for defencemen. The 16-year-old has already surpassed his point totals from a season ago. Wells was added to the Cougars 50-man protected list during the 2015-16 season and attended his first Training Camp with the Cougars in 2016. G – Zach Wickson (99 – Calgary, AB) – 17-year-old Zach Wickson is hard to miss out there. He’s 6’5”, 195 pounds and has made an awesome first impression with the BCMML leading Cariboo Cougars. So far this season, Wickson has played a big part in the team’s 11-1 record. He’s 5-1 (second most wins) with a 1.24 goals against average (second best in BCMML). He will be competing for a Telus Cup in 2017 with the host Cariboo Cougars. He was added to the Cougars 50-man Player Proctected List during the summer of 2016 and was awesome during his first Training Camp with the Cougars in 2016.
