Wildfire prompts evacuation alert near Chetwynd

Peace River Regional District has issued an evacuation alert for the Wildmare Creek Wildfire upon recommendation from BC Wildfire Service.
 
Because of the potential danger to life and health, the following area is asked to be on alert:
  • The intersection Fernando Subdivision and Hwy 97S continuing northwest for 1 Km.
  • From this point, continue southwest to Wildmare Creek
  • Following Wildmare Creek southeast to the Pine River
  • Continuing along the Pine River northeast for 2 km
  • Continue north to the railroad tracks.
  • Follow the railroad tracks east for 1 Km.
  • From there, continue north for .17 Km.
  • Continue east for .13 Km.
     
  • From this point, northwest to the intersection of Fernando Subdivision and Hwy 97S.
An evacuation alert has been issued to prepare you to evacuate your premises or property should it be found necessary. Residents will be given as much advance notice as possible prior to evacuation; however, you may receive limited notice due to changing conditions.
 
The fire is an estimated 30 hectares and remains classified as Out of Control. Ground crews and aviation support are on site, and Highway 97 is currently closed.
