Prince George RCMP’s Downtown Safety Unit and Problem Oriented Policing Team joined forces last week to run a series of very successful Boost and Bust projects throughout Prince George.
Police officers partnered with retailers in Pine Centre Mall, Parkwood Mall and Superstore. In total, investigators arrested 33 people and recovered over $4500 worth of product between the three locations.
“The goal of the Boost and Bust projects is to assist retail outlets in Prince George that are feeling the effects of repeated theft, by targeting shoplifters with the assistance of the Loss Prevention Officers already working in these locations,” said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.
In 2023, Boost and Bust projects undertaken by the Downtown Safety Unit resulted in approximately 70 arrests. By partnering with more locations and with the addition of the Problem Oriented Policing Team, these two units have already surpassed 60 arrests in the first quarter of 2024. In some instances, where people have been arrested in more than one Boost and Bust project, this information is included in the Report to Crown Counsel for consideration during the charge approval process.
