B.C. Bird Trail takes flight in Prince George

Bird watchers are set to flock to Prince George, with the city being one of 11 new destinations added on the BC Bird Trail in its biggest growth year yet.

“This is welcome news at Tourism Prince George,” said TPG CEO Colin Carson. “Being added to the BC Bird Trail gives the city more visibility as a place to visit for bird watchers, outdoor enthusiasts, and nature lovers.”

Since B.C. is located on the Pacific Flyway, extending from Alaska to Patagonia, the province offers a flight path for rare and diverse bird species. This means B.C. has the highest number of bird watchers in Canada, according to an article from TravelLife.ca.

“We have so much to explore in Prince George, and bird watching is a year-round activity, especially going into tourism’s shoulder season,” said Carson.

The Prince George page on BCBirdTrail.ca outlines different bird species you can find in the city and surrounding areas. It also provides a list of shops, accommodations and restaurants to make the most out of a bird-watching trip in Prince George.

The BC Bird Trail was developed in 2020 as the leading source of information on attractions, activities and accommodations related to birdwatching in B.C.

“Through easy-to-follow itineraries, we encourage respectful travel through the province as folks from all backgrounds discover the super, natural wonders of birding,” said Kim Persley, Managing Director of The Number Creative; the creative agency that develops the Trail for Destination BC alongside lead DMO Tourism Richmond.

The addition to the BC Bird Trail, comes on the heels of Prince George being part of Gardens BC.
