COVID-19: City cancels pool programs but pools remain open

During the 1993 General Local Election, voters in Prince George voted nearly 77 percent in favour of the City borrowing the funds necessary to build a second aquatics facility. 20 years later, the facility averages about 275,000 visits per year and is one of Prince George's most popular facilities. Starting tomorrow, March 16, 2020, all registered pool programs at city pools will be cancelled until the end of April. This includes all swimming lessons (private or in groups), birthday parties, and lifesaving and lifeguarding courses. Drop-in aquafit classes will remain available with the exception of the river walking class.

Also the sauna at both pools and the steam room at the Aquatic Centre are being closed so as to comply with the recommendations of the BC Provincial Health Officer to avoid activities where people are closer than one to two metres apart.

Nevertheless, based on the advice of the Provincial Health Officer, both the Prince George Aquatic Centre and the Four Seasons Leisure Pool are continuing to operate at their regular hours of operation. The hot tubs at both facilities will remain open as long as customers respect the 1-2 metre social distancing recommendation.

All customers will receive a full refund for cancelled pool programs.  Customers who wish to cancel their pool pass may cancel at any time and re-purchase at a time of their choosing; a pro-rated refund at the time of cancellation will only be applied when passes are cancelled.

For more information, contact the pool at 250-561-7787.
