The Prince George Cougars are back in the win column following an impressive 3-1 victory over the Brandon Wheat Kings on Friday at the CN Centre. Aiden Foster scored twice in the victory, while Peyton Shore collected his first win as a Cougar, making 29 saves.

In an exciting opening period, the Cougars opened the scoring with a terrific short-handed goal from Aiden Foster. It started with a blocked shot by Corbin Vaughan that sent Foster in on a breakaway. Despite pressure from a Wheat Kings defender, Foster made no mistake, finding the back of the net at 10:49. Prince George’s penalty kill was excellent in the opening frame, while Shore was perfect, stopping all eight shots he faced.

In the second, the Wheat Kings generated some terrific chances in the Cougars’ end, but Shore continued his strong play to preserve Prince George’s 1-0 lead. Brandon eventually found the equalizer at 15:04 when Chase Surkan solved Shore to even the game at one. The score remained tied through 40 minutes.

In the final period, the Cougars regained the lead at 5:34 when Foster banged home his second of the game and fourth goal in his last two contests. Kayden Lemire did a terrific job creating the scoring opportunity before Foster finished it off to give Prince George a 2-1 advantage.

The Cougars added some insurance at 15:55. Lee Shurgot fired a shot wide that came off the end boards, bounced back over the net and deflected off the body of Filip Ruzicka and in to make it 3-1. Shore continued his strong night between the pipes down the stretch, shutting the door to secure the Cougars’ return to the win column.
