Northern Rockies RCMP seek witnesses to shooting incident

RCMP in the Northern Rockies detachment are seeking witnesses to a shooting incident that occurred on September 26, 2026, on the Fort Nelson First Nation Reserve.

Police became aware of the incident around 2:40 a.m., when they began receiving reports of a fight near the 5000-block of Dene Etene Road. When investigators arrived at the residence, they learned one person had been shot and already transported to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

“Police officers have arrested two suspects in this incident, while a third suspect remains outstanding. The two arrested were released back into the community on conditions and with future court dates. Investigators believe this to be a targeted event with no ongoing safety risk to the public,” states Corporal Jennifer Cooper, BC RCMP spokesperson for Northern B.C.

Northern Rockies RCMP is asking that if anyone knows the whereabouts of the remaining suspect or if they have any information that can help advance this investigation, such as video surveillance or dash camera footage relating to the event, they contact an investigator by calling 250-774-2700. Please quote file number 2026-2211.

This investigation remains ongoing.
