Fort St. James RCMP investigate suspected homicide

The BC RCMP Major Crime Unit is investigating after a man died early Monday morning in Fort St. James.

On September 14, 2026, at 2:40 a.m., Fort St. James RCMP responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence in the 800-block of BC Spruce Road.

Frontline officers attended the scene and located a 77-year-old man suffering from serious injuries. BC Emergency Health Services personnel attended and transported the victim to hospital in critical condition; however, despite life-saving efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.

The suspect or suspects had fled the area prior to police arrival.

The BC RCMP Major Crime Unit has assumed conduct of the investigation and are being deployed to Fort St. James.

“Anyone with any information about the man’s death who has yet to speak with investigators is urged to contact police immediately,” said Staff Sergeant Kris Clark of the BC RCMP. “While the information I can share is limited, this appears to be an isolated and targeted incident.”

The investigation remains in its early stages and no further information is available at this time.
