MLA Sheldon Clare is pleased to announce that, following discussions with Northern Health, he has received confirmation that funding for the Community Engagement Coordinator supporting the Quesnel Community Clean Up Crew (Clean Team) will continue for another year.
The peer-driven initiative plays a critical role in keeping Quesnel safe and clean by removing litter, discarded needles, and other drug paraphernalia from public spaces across the community.
“I raised the importance of the Clean Team directly with Northern Health and was pleased to receive confirmation that funding for the Community Engagement Coordinator will continue,” said Sheldon Clare, MLA for Prince George-North Cariboo. “This program delivers real results for Quesnel, helping improve public safety, maintain cleaner public spaces, and support a stronger community for residents, businesses, and visitors alike.”
Clare thanked Northern Health for its continued partnership, as well as the many constituents, businesses, community organizations, and the City of Quesnel that voiced their support for the program.
“I want to thank Northern Health for listening to the concerns raised by our community and recognizing the value of this initiative,” said Clare. “I am also grateful to the City, residents, businesses, and social service organizations who spoke up about the importance of the Clean Team. Their advocacy helped reinforce just how essential this service is to Quesnel.”
The program is clearly effective. In a three-month period in 2025, the Clean Team collected 1,700 small garbage bags, 106 large garbage bags of debris, and safely removed 730 discarded needles from public areas throughout the city.
“Those numbers demonstrate the tremendous value this program provides,” added Clare. “The Quesnel Community Clean Up Crew makes a visible difference every day, and I am pleased that Northern Health will continue supporting this important work.”
