People across northern British Columbia will have greater access to flexible, workforce-focused education thanks to provincial funding that will enable the University of Northern British Columbia to deliver 12 Continuing Studies courses.
The StrongerBC future skills grant will support students in programs that respond to workforce priorities across sectors including health care, environmental stewardship, technology, business and mental health. The funding helps remove financial barriers for eligible British Columbians while supporting communities and employers in developing the skilled workforce needed for the future.
Designed in consultation with employers, Indigenous communities, government and industry, the programs will be delivered through UNBC Continuing Studies using flexible learning models that enable working professionals, people changing careers and job seekers to build new skills while remaining connected to their communities.
“UNBC was founded to serve the North, and that commitment extends well beyond the University’s degree programs,” says UNBC Provost and Vice-President Academic Dr. Michel S. Beaulieu. “With the support of the future skills grant, UNBC is creating opportunities for people to gain new skills, adapt to changing industries and contribute to the long-term success of their communities.”
From advancing cybersecurity capacity and strengthening health-care systems to supporting sustainable resource development and Indigenous knowledge, the programs demonstrate UNBC’s role in preparing learners for the changing needs of northern industries while helping communities remain resilient and competitive.
“Workforce development begins by listening,” says UNBC Continuing Studies Manager Nicole Neufeld. “When someone in the North wants to launch a new career, advance in their current role, or respond to changes in their industry, access to education shouldn’t be the barrier that holds them back. The future skills grant allows UNBC to provide practical, industry-informed education that responds to the workforce needs of our region.”

- Clinical Informatics Foundations & Systems Integration
- Clinical Informatics Leadership, Validation & Innovation
- Strategic Supply Chain Leadership & Analytics
