The BC Nurses’ Union will hold a rally in Prince George today, to call on Northern Health to immediately end the intimidation and retaliation nurses continue to face for participating in lawful job action.
Since job action began on July 2, BCNU has received more than 4,000 reports of intimidation, coercion and interference from nurses across BC. More than one-quarter of those reports have come from nurses working in Northern Health, despite the health authority representing only a fraction of the province’s nursing workforce. BCNU says the volume and nature of these reports make Northern Health the province’s most significant source of concerns related to the treatment of nurses exercising their legal rights.
Today’s rally will bring together nurses, labour leaders, elected officials and community supporters to send a clear message that retaliation against workers has no place in British Columbia’s health-care system.
BCNU President Adriane Gear and BCNU interim northeast Regional Council Member Raelene Stevenson will be available for interviews following the rally.
