Twenty-six new wildfires in B.C. last week

In the last week there have been 26 new wildfires in B.C., while suppression has been successful, most of these were preventable wildfires caused by humans.

Human caused wildfires can start in several ways, as temperatures continue to rise through summer we remind everyone to be careful outdoors. Follow open burning regulations, be safe with campfires, ensure trailers and equipment are maintained to avoid sparks and don’t discard burning items like cigarettes.

By being cautious you can reduce the impact of wildfires in B.C. and keep everyone in the province safer.

Over the weekend, the central and southern portions of the province will remain hot and dry, with some wind on Friday and Saturday. These conditions can lead to fuels being more receptive to ignition and fires growing more quickly, if you haven’t already, download the BC Wildfire Service app to be able to report wildfires quickly and even include a photo of what you see.

The northern half of the province will experience some precipitation and some cooling this weekend, but on Sunday, temperatures will rise again province-wide.
