May is Hospice Month—a time to slow down, to remember, and to honour the lives of those who are no longer with us. Across Canada, this month invites us to reflect on the profound role hospice care plays—not only at the end of life, but in the memories, relationships, and love that continue long after loss.
In every family, there are stories that deserve to be told again. A laugh that still echoes. A hand once held. A moment that changed everything. Hospice Month is an invitation to speak those memories aloud—to bring the people we have lost back into the room through the stories we share. “Helping people share memories is what matters most this month’ says Donna Flood Hospice ED
At the Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society (PGHPCS), care is rooted in the understanding that while life ends, connection does not. Hospice is not just about dying—it is about living fully until the end and supporting those who remain as they carry grief forward.
Every day, PGHPCS walks alongside individuals and families navigating serious illness, death, and loss. Through Home Hospice, Hospice House, and grief and bereavement programs—including specialized supports for children and families—people are held in moments that are often quiet, sacred, and deeply human.
Hospice care creates space for what matters most: for words that need to be said,
for forgiveness, for laughter in unexpected moments, and for love that does not end.
Trained staff and compassionate volunteers provide emotional, psychosocial, and practical support—ensuring that no one faces these moments alone. This holistic approach to care supports not only the person who is dying, but the family and community who will carry their memory forward.
Importantly, all services provided by PGHPCS are offered at no cost. With only 39% of funding publicly provided, the organization depends on the generosity of the community to continue offering care, compassion, and support to those who need it most.
Throughout May, the community is invited to come together—not just in awareness, but in remembrance. “We are excited to host some exciting events to help support Hospice and help encourage people to share their stories’ says Alicia Fitzpatrick Hospice Fund Development Team
High Tea Fundraiser
Gather with friends, family, and loved ones. Share stories. Speak names. Honour someone special. In these simple acts, memory becomes something we hold together.
Colour Walk
Walk in memory of those you love. Each step is a tribute. Each kilometre carries a story. Join the community on May 30 at Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park to Celebrate Life in Colour—a reflection of grief, love, and the many ways we remember.
Hospice Month reminds us that grief is not something to move past—it is something to carry, together. And in that carrying, we keep love alive.
