Community Moves festival brings artists from across B.C. to Prince George

Method Dance Society presents the fourth annual Community Moves Festival, taking place May 17–23, 2026, across Prince George, with events at Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park, the Prince George Playhouse, and Knox Performance Centre.

This year’s festival brings together a diverse group of artists from across British Columbia, alongside Northern and local performers, creating a unique opportunity for the Prince George community to engage directly with contemporary performance practices from across the province.

Community Moves is rooted in creation and exchange. Over the course of the week, visiting artists live and work in Prince George, developing and sharing new work in collaboration with local artists and community members. The result is a dynamic program of performances, workshops, and interactive events that invite the public into the creative process.

Featured artists include Anya Saugstad (Furious Grace Dance Theatre) and James Gnam, Artistic Director of Plastic Orchid Factory, Claudia Moore, Giselle Liu, Jhoely Triana, alongside a strong cohort of Northern and local artists who are central to the festival’s development.
The festival opens outdoors in Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park with performances and interactive works, including an opening ceremony, performances and workshops by visiting and local artists. Events continue throughout the week across parks, studios, and theatre spaces.

Community Moves places a strong emphasis on access and participation, with all workshops and community activities offered free of charge.

Two Mainstage performances at the Prince George Playhouse anchor the festival, May 19th and 23rd, alongside an ongoing exhibition, Circle of Trust created by local artists Shayla Dyble and Cat Sivertsen.

“Community Moves is rooted in process,” says Shelby Richardson, Executive Artistic Director of Method Dance Society. “It’s about creating space to witness and take part in how work develops over time, and to build connections between artists and community here in Prince George.”

All workshops and community activities are free to attend, with tiered-ticketed mainstage performances taking place during the week.
