Northern Health is committed to creating a health care system where everyone feels respected, valued, and supported. NH recognizes that persistent systemic barriers, biases, and inequities continue to impact Indigenous peoples, racialized individuals, persons with disabilities and complex health conditions, immigrants, 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, and other underrepresented groups who face stigma, discrimination, or marginalization. Addressing these challenges is essential to building trust and improving health outcomes across northern B.C.
To better understand these experiences and identify barriers to care, Northern Health’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) department is launching the IDEA Survey. This survey is designed to gather meaningful feedback from individuals and communities across our region. This input will help shape strategies, policies, and programs that foster a more inclusive and equitable environment for both patients and staff.
Between April 15 and July 22, 2026, people will be able to participate in the survey and share their thoughts and personal experiences related to inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility at Northern Health.
Why this survey matters
Northern BC spans over 600,000 square kilometers, presenting unique challenges such as vast geography, limited resources, diverse cultural needs, and complex histories. Participation in the survey will ensure that diverse voices from remote and rural areas are heard and directly inform service design.
What will happen with the feedback
Responses will be analyzed to identify themes and priorities, which will:
- Inform the development of a three-year IDEA Strategy
- Guide annual action plans focused on improving service delivery and workplace culture
- Shape policy development
- Be shared through validation sessions to ensure transparency and accountability
This is an important first step! Survey feedback will help Northern Health strengthen trust with Northern communities and ensure diverse perspectives are included in decision-making.
