For the fourth year in a row, Aaron Vanderpool and his family are sharing 20-second hugs in honour of their child, Taraji, who passed away in 2022.
Taraji’s family is hosting the event during Downtown Winterfest on Saturday, Feb. 14. The campaign honours Taraji’s final gift to their dad the night before they died:
“I dedicate this event to my only child, Taraji. The last night I saw them before they died, they gifted me with a big, long, perfect hug. I love them and will miss them for all my days. They were my world, and this world will never be the same without them,” said Aaron Vanderpool. “I want to share my gift with you. Please join me on Feb. 14 and share a 20-second hug.”
The event also includes a memorial board where anyone can share memories or photos of their loved ones who have passed away.
“Why a 20-second hug?” Vanderpool adds. “Research shows that the length of our hugs matter more than the number of hugs we receive. 20-second hugs can lift your mood, reduce your stress, and boost your happy hormones (oxytocin).”
Those who want to participate can stop by their booth at Downtown Winterfest in the Prince George Civic Centre between 1-3pm on Feb. 14 for a 20-second hug from a caring volunteer. People are also encouraged to participate wherever they are located by sharing 20-second hugs with those around them.
