Council undecided on ways to determine remuneration

Council considered a report from the Advisory Committee on Council Remuneration. The two options put forward from the committee included implementing a performance-based compensation model, and the second option was a remuneration framework whereby the Mayor’s remuneration is tied to a percentage of provincial Minister remuneration and Councillor remuneration is tied to a percentage of Member of Legislative Assembly remuneration.

Council did not move forward with these recommendations and did not put forward any change to the formula for pay increases.

There was also a motion put forward to dissolve the Advisory Committee on Council Remuneration having fulfilled the mandate which passed.

Council directed administration to return a report by the end of the year that looks at options to remove or revise the section within the remuneration bylaw specific to the quadrennial review so that the work can be completed without making the neutral volunteer committees targeted and vilified.
