Prince George-Mackenzie MLA Kield Giddens is praising former Conservative leader John Rustad, but also put his support behind interim leader Trevor Halford.
Rustad was ousted as leader of the party this week after 20 of the party’s 38 MLA said they no longer had confidence in Rustad’s leadership.
“I’ve known John Rustad for 17 years,” Giddens posted on X. “He is an honest and decent man who treated me well as a young political staffer at the beginning of my career, and he treated me with respect as a new MLA in the Legislature.
“I’ve always appreciated his public policy focus and the ideas he brings to the table. He has done so with the goal of creating a better province.
Today, I am feeling grateful for what he has achieved to bring a principled Conservative alternative to the NDP to the forefront. We’re now moving forward with the next chapter in our party.
I am fully behind Trevor Halford as interim leader of the Conservative Party of B.C. We will have an exciting leadership race bring energy and ideas to the table. We will bring more people into our movement for change and common sense for British Columbians. The NDP are on notice – and their time in Government will come to an end soon. My goal has always been to serve the people of Prince George-Mackenzie and to build a better future for young people in this province. Let’s get it done.”
