Freezing rain warning for the Cariboo

Freezing rain is expected along Highway 97 from Clinton to Lac la Hache through late this morning.

A Pacific frontal system is tracking towards the BC interior. Associated warm and moist air will push over cold air trapped near the surface; periods of freezing rain at times mixed with snow is expected to continue for the 100 Mile region. The precipitation will taper off near noon.

Exact accumulation is uncertain but localized amounts of two to five mm of ice accretion is likely. Roads and walkways will likely become icy and slippery. Icy surfaces could be difficult to detect. Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions. Be very careful if walking or driving.

The site shiftintowinter.ca reminds drivers to know before you go. Adjust to winter driving behaviour and use winter tires and chains. Road conditions are available at drivebc.ca. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to BCstorm@ec.gc.ca or post reports on X using #BCStorm.
