The Spirit of the North Health Foundation was the big winner at the wrestling matches at the Civic Centre last weekend, raising a thousand dollars for their work here in the region. Locally-based Primetime Wrestling promoted the double-header event and contributed to their total of $39,781 raised for local charities and causes so far. When you consider that the league has presented fewer than 30 events since opening their doors in 2022, that sum is even more remarkable.
Between the ropes, Vanderhoof’s Edward Wild III, returning from a three-month tour in Georgia, captured the Primetime VIP title from the Disko Kid and local favorites Donnie Brooks and Rebel Knoxville, “The Caribroozers”, captured the tag team titles from Montreal’s Mustapha Jordan & Wilson Colas. The weekend also featured Stampede Wrestling legend Jason the Terrible in action as well as the return of the lady wrestlers, who were a hit with the fans. Local ring legend Stuart Brown (aka The Mauler) was honored with a Canadian Wrestling Legend commemorative title belt celebrating his career achievements. This is one of only four of these belts that has been issued in Canadian wrestling.
A large crowd turned out for the wrestling action and it appears that the horizon is bright for the organization. They will return to action on November 14 and 15 at the Civic Centre with the annual “Primetime Tournament”, a memorial showcase in tribute to the late Paul English of Prince George. The events will raise money for the local boy scout program. Already scheduled for the tournament include John Gillespie (Prince George), Braydon Goss (Summerland), Jax Williams (Hamilton), Edward Wild III (Vanderhoof), Mentallo (parts unknown), and Sean Gaston (Kelowna).
