More than 1,200 lightning strikes in the Cariboo July 30

On July 30 the Cariboo Fire Centre received 1,245 lightning strikes, resulting in 13 new wildfire starts.

The Snaking River Wildfire (C11164) is 65 kilometres west of Quesnel and is 150 hectares in size. It is producing smoke that is visible from Quesnel, Highway 97 and surrounding communities. Initial attack firefighters and heavy equipment are responding with helicopter support.

Other wildfires within the Cariboo Fire Centre are being actioned by ground crews, heavy equipment and aerial resources as operationally required. No structures or critical infrastructure are being threatened at this time.

Early detection and public reporting is crucial when responding to new wildfire starts. To report a wildfire, unattended campfire or open burning violation, please call 1-800-663-5555 (toll-free), *5555 on a cellphone or submit a report directly through the BC Wildfire Service mobile app. The Report function in the BC Wildfire App lets you upload images and can be used without service.
