Prince George city council approved a budget amendment of $750,000 funded from the Solid Waste Reserve to support replacement of an existing automated solid waste collection truck.
In May 2024 one of the city’s garbage trucks was involved in a serious motor vehicle accident on Foothills Blvd. that resulted in the unit being written off by ICBC. The report to council explained the City has received $375,000 from the insurance recovery but the funds from insurance do not cover the full cost of a new replacement collection unit so the remaining funds would need to come from the Solid Waste Reserve.
The wait period for delivery of a new collection vehicle is approximately 12-18 months once the purchase process is complete.
