Cyclist injured in hit and run Monday has died

Prince George RCMP and the Canadian Cancer Society confirm that the community rider injured in a hit and run Monday succumbed to his injuries yesterday, July 10, 2025. His name was Shane Kelly.

Kelly was a proud supporter of the Cops for Cancer Tour de North ride and had previously supported other Canadian Cancer Society fundraising events such as Relay for Life. He also participated in fundraisers for other cancer-related charities including Wheeling Warriors and Tour de Cure.

“We are all heartbroken by this news,” said Laura Nelson, Manager, Cops for Cancer, Canadian Cancer Society. “Shane was a caring and enthusiastic team builder from the very beginning, offering comradery, encouragement and support to the entire Tour de North team. He was driven by a deep commitment to making a difference for children with cancer. Shane’s teammates are devastated by the loss of one of their own, in such tragic circumstances. We offer our sincere condolences and unwavering support to Shane’s family and friends.”

This investigation remains ongoing. Police officers are still looking to speak with any witnesses to the incident or to anyone in the immediate area of where the incident occurred who may have video surveillance, dash camera footage or cell phone video of the vehicle’s driving behaviour before and after the event. Please call the Prince George RCMP non-emergency number at 250-561-3300 to speak with an investigator if you have any information relating to this incident.

“Shane’s family is taking time to grieve privately and has requested space during this difficult period,” said Corporal Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP. “If you would like to share your condolences or well-wishes, they can be brought to the Prince George RCMP Detachment at 455 Victoria Street.
