Peace River Regional District issues evacation order for properties near Pocket Knife Creek fire

The Peace River Regional District has issued an Evacuation Order #2 for the Pocket Knife Creek Wildfire (G80352) upon recommendation from BC Wildfire Service due to immediate danger to life safety. This Order rescinds Evacuation Alert #1, issued on June 5, 2025 At 1430hrs.

The Evacuation Order is in effect for properties in the following area:

  • From KM Marker 275 of Hwy 97N, just south of Buckinghorse River
  • Following Hwy 97N, for a buffer ranging between 3.5 km – 6.5 km along Hwy 97N, on east and west sides
  • North to KM Marker 325, on Hwy 97N

YOU MUST LEAVE THE AREA IMMEDIATELY!

PRRD Alerts do not affect First Nations communities on Reserve Lands or municipalities as they issue their own.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO:

  • Visit Drive BC for road conditions.
  • If you are in Buckinghorse River, or the surrounding area, head south to Fort St. John. If you need evacuation assistance, go to the Pomeroy Sports Centre at 9324 96th Street, open until 2100, June 8, 2025. After hours phone number is 250-794-3310.
  • If you are in Trutch or the surrounding area, head north to Fort Nelson. If you need evacuation support call 205-500-1716.
  • If you need transportation assistance from the area, call 911.
  • Shut off all gas and electrical appliances, other than refrigerators and freezers.
  • Close and lock all windows and doors
  • Close gates (latch) but do not lock them.
  • Gather your family and, if you have room, take a neighbour or someone needing transportation. Do not use more vehicles than needed.
  • Take critical items (identification, credit cards, medicine, cell phone and charger, and keys) only if they are immediately available.
  • Take pets in pet kennels or on a leash.
