Nove Voce to present Birdsong

Cate Carelli, Elayne Taylor, Jennifer Hiscock, Rebecca Eberle, Ria Mukund, and Emma Forgeron.

International award winning choir Nove Voce is proud to present Birdsong, April 27, 2 p.m. at Knox Performance Space.

Birdsong is a homage to our feather friends through songs based on bird names and bird sounds. We are especially proud that this is an all Canadian program with the only exception being the famous song Blackbird by the Beatles.
Featured composers include laura hawley from Edmonton, Don Macdonald from Nelson and Stephen Hatfield from Vancouver Island.  The pieces range all styles and genres from the hauntingly beautiful Stone and Sand and Sea and Sky by the Rose Vaughn Trio to the super fun and spicy Las Amarillas a Mexican folksong about the Calandrias (mockingbirds).

Four pieces will also be their northern premiere:  they are Kingfisher, Magpie, Raven and Wren. These were all part of a commission by Elektra Women’s choir and are based on the incredible poetry in The Lost Words by Robert McFarlane. These poems are all based on words that were taken out of the Oxford Junior dictionary.

We are joined by several guest artists, Maureen Nielsen on piano, Jose Delgado on violin, Anna Scarpino on Flute and piccolo, Paul Mulligan on Clarinet and Naomi Kavka on cello.

Tickets are available on Eventbrite. For more information we can be reached at general@novevoce.ca
