Prince George RCMP officers arrested three people outside of a night club on March 2, 2025, just after 3 a.m.
Frontline police officers were in the area to keep an eye out for anyone causing a disturbance at the end of the night on Sunday night, when they observed an assault occur between two women. When the police officer attempted to arrest the primary suspect in the assault, she became uncooperative with the officer.
A large crowd began to swarm around the police officer, reaching out and grabbing at the lone officer in an attempt to stop him from arresting the suspect. This was a very volatile situation and the police officer quickly called for back up as he determined his safety, the safety of the suspect and the safety of the people in the crowd to be at risk.
In response to another police officer requesting assistance in a tense situation, multiple other officers attended to help deescalate the large crowd that had formed. In addition to the original suspect, two other people were arrested in relation to this event. All three people were transported to the RCMP Detachment and were later released without process.
“This is a reminder to the public that you may not always know what is going on or why a person is under arrest by a police officer, but that you must allow our police officers to safely complete their work. If you think something is going on that requires follow up by the detachment, there are better ways to have this done than interfering with the police officer,” said Corporal Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.
This investigation has since been concluded.
