An open letter to Prince George-Valemount MLA Rosalyn Bird
Editor:
I am one of your constituents, born in Prince George. My parents often reminded me how fortunate I was to be born in Canada — more so, in British Columbia.
I never understood, growing up. But I realize now. This is my home. Here, I am surrounded by my neighbours, and I live each day upholding the values of our country: equality before the law, fairness, social justice, freedom, and mutual respect. We are known for our tolerance; for peacekeeping; for our healthcare; the vast beauty of our land; and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
While our history is imperfect, and there is much yet to reconcile, we are a country that learns, grows, and strives to be better. Our nation is still young. It must be protected. That is why I am calling on you to act decisively in the best interests of your constituents, our province, and our country.
Call for unity. Condemn fascism. Condemn imperialism. It is imperative that we reject intolerance and stand together against all imperialist foreign powers.
Your colleagues, Dallas Brodie, Heather Maas, Jordan Kealy, Tara Armstrong, and Brent Chapman, betrayed Canada when they voted against the NDP’s tariff motion. This is unacceptable and disgraceful. If they did not understand what they were voting for, they have no business in governance. But they knew, and they chose to betray us.
I trust that you will not condone such behaviour and that you will not ever vote against the interests of British Columbia or Canada. I urge you to ensure that our voices are heard and that our sovereignty is protected. British Columbia, Canada, and her people will NEVER belong to the United States.
Vive le Canada.
