The Victoria Royals returned to the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre Saturday to wrap up their two-game series with the Prince George Cougars
Escalus Burlock opened the scoring for the Royals with an unassisted marker at the three-minute mark of the first period. Keaton Verhoeff followed with an unassisted goal just over one minute later. The Royals’ lead was extended at 14:12 by Kenta Isogai, assisted by Teydon Trembecky and Cole Reschny, to bring the score to 3-0 after the first 20 minutes of play.
The Royals took a four-goal lead at the five-minute mark of the second period with a goal from Markus Loponen, assisted by Seth Fryer. Koehn Zimmer got the Cougars on the board with a power play marker at 15:42. The Royals led 4-1 after two periods.
The Cougars cut the Royals’ lead to one in the third frame with goals from Koehn Ziemmer at 12:17 and Villiam Kmec at 15:28. Teydon Trembecky notched two empty-net goals in the last three minutes of the game — the first assisted by Kenta Isogai and Cole Reschny, the second unassisted — to secure the 6-3 win for the Royals.
