The Prince George Spruce Kings extended their winning streak to four games with a 2-1 overtime win over the Nanaimo Clippers on Saturday night in Nanaimo.
After a scoreless first period that saw the Spruce Kings lead the shot clock 10-7, it took over 13 minutes of the middle frame to get the first goal.
Off a face-off win by Aidan Carolan, the loose puck was fired by Carter Hesselgrave off of Chazz Nixon’s pad right to Mason Loewen, who tucked home his 6th of the season.
The Clippers responded on the power play at 15:51, as Cole Lonsdale’s pass deflected off of a Spruce Kings defender and into the net to tie the game.
The third period would only see 11 shots total as the teams headed to overtime.
In the extra frame, Lonsdale went to skate out of his own zone and caught an edge, loosing the puck to Owen Goodbrand who walked in from the top of the circle and beat Nixon to sweep the island road trip.
The Spruce Kings return to Prince George for a Friday and Saturday double header matchup with the Chilliwack Chiefs. As of Saturday night, the Spruce Kings trail the Langley Rivermen by three points for the 8th and final playoff spot. The Rivermen dropped an 8-3 decision to Alberni Valley on Saturday, and head into a Sunday matinee against the Cowichan Valley Capitals.
