
Friday night at Brownridge Court, the UNBC Timberwolves (4-15) dropped the opener of their weekend double-header with UBC by 79-36 score. UBC received a combined 47 points from Kiera Daly (27) and Mona Berlitz (20). Berlitz added 10 rebounds to secure the double-double. For UNBC Viktoriia Filatova reached double-digits with 11 points, while Amrit Manak grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
UBC led 18-6 after one. Daly paced the Thunderbirds attack with nine points on three-of-four shooting while Berlitz was a nuisance on the glass, grabbing four first-quarter boards along with four points for the visitors. For UNBC all six first-quarter points came from leading scorer Filatova. The second-year guard began the night three-of-four while adding a rebound and a steal.
The second quarter was much better for the Green and Gold as they posted 14 points. Filatova added three more to give her a team-high nine at the break while Brynn Dergousoff, Sarah Kuklisin, Adaiah Tupas-Singh and Yana Shupak all found paydirt as well. Berlitz led UBC with six points in the second, vaulting her to double-digits. Daly added three more to her totals as well, giving her a game-high 12 points at the half.
Halfway through the score showed 34-20 for UBC.
The first-half rebound leaders were UNBC’s Brynn Dergousoff (five) and UBC’s Jessica Clarke (6).
UBC extended their lead by 11 more after outscoring UNBC 19-8 in the third quarter. The tandem of Daly and Berlitz continued their solid play on offense combining for 11 of UBC’s third quarter points. Berlitz bagged four more rebounds also, giving her nine through three quarters. On the other side, Sarah Kuklisin and Amrit Manak both hit from deep in the third for UNBC who trailed 53-28 with 10 to go.
In the final quarter soon-to-be graduate Bella Mesquita registered four points for UNBC while Avin Jahangiri and Filatova also added field goals. For the visitors it was once again the duo of Berlitz and Daly that did the heavy lifting. Daly poured in nine to finish with a game-high 27 while Berlitz added five to also reach the 20-point mark for the evening. In the fourth quarter Berlitz also snagged her 10th rebound, giving her a double-double on the night.
UNBC’s top offensive performer on the night was Filatova who finished with 11 points. The leading rebounder for UNBC was Amrit Manak with seven.
