The Prince George Spruce Kings won their third straight game with a 5-2 victory over the Cowichan Valley Capitals on Friday night at the Cowichan Community Centre.
Prince George got on the board in the latter stages of the first period, as Cooper Williams scored his 8th of the season, picking up a loose puck and putting it past Erick Roest.
The Spruce Kings were heavily outshot in the frame but Charles Gravel was solid making 16 saves.
In the second, Kazumo Sasaki extended the lead to a pair of goals on a breakaway. After Gravel made a pad save, Ludvig Basth found Carter Hesselgrave in the defensive zone, and with Sasaki streaking ahead, Hesselgrave lifted the perfect pass to him and Sasaki went to his backhand to widen the game.
Just 59 seconds later, Owen Goodbrand scored at the side of the net, firing one in front that redirected past Roest to make it 3-0.
The Capitals would respond right away as former Spruce King Luca Primerano beat Gravel to make it 3-1 after 40 minutes.
In the third, the Capitals took advantage of a turnover deep in the Spruce Kings end and Jake Gutwirth went around Gravel to tuck it home and make it 3-2.
Just 3:04 later, Sasaki would knock down a puck at the defensive blueline and rushed ahead, sliding the puck across to Linden Makow who beat Roest on a deke to make it 4-2.
Mason Loewen would deflect a centering pass from Hesselgrave into an empty net in the final minute.
The Spruce Kings head into Nanaimo tomorrow night to face the Clippers trailing the Langley Rivermen by 5 points for the 8th and final playoff spot. The Rivermen were idle tonight, while the Clippers knocked off Powell River 3-0.
