Prince George-North Cariboo MLA Sheldon Clare toured the riding this past week meeting with residents and stakeholders as he prepares for the upcoming legislative session later this month.

“It has been wonderful to touch base with people in the heart of this spectacular riding and take stock of the needs and concerns of constituents as I prepare for the upcoming legislative session in Victoria,” Clare said in a news release. “It has been a jammed packed week of travel and conversations, reaching out to the smaller yet critically important communities in the riding.”

Clare was in Wildwood, Williams Lake, and Horsefly on Wednesday. On Thursday, Clare visited Likely, Beaver Valley, Big Lake and McLeese Lake. Friday, Clare was in Wells.

Meeting with Cariboo Regional District director Steve Forseth in Williams Lake, transportation issues north of Williams Lake including McLeese Lake, Wildwood and Radio Range Road were discussed. Furthermore, copper wire infrastructure and connectivity issues in Xatśūll – Soda Creek were addressed.

In Horsefly, Clare hosted a community meet-and-greet engaging with constituents on a range of topics including ongoing road maintenance, excessive speeding on Horsefly Rd, logging activity in the area, as well as placer and hard rock mining issues. Clare also toured the Horsefly Volunteer Fire Department.

Following the meet-and-greet, Clare met with members of the Horsefly River Roundtable. Numerous, longstanding issues were raised, and a constructive dialogue was had to parse out action items to address concerns in and around the Horsefly River watershed.

Thursday morning, Clare was in Likely and Beaver Valley meeting a few dozen constituents to discuss mining development, food processing, Keithly Creek Road, funding for first responders, and Cedar Point Provincial Park. That afternoon, Clare hosted a community meet-and-greet in Big Lake and discussed the proposed community forest and regional infrastructure.
Clare finished the tour Friday in the District of Wells for an in-depth meeting with Mayor Ed Coleman on the many local projects proposed and ongoing as well as attending the Gold Rush Trail Sled Dog Mail Run at Troll Ski Resort.

“I now look to Victoria and the first sitting of the new legislative session,” said Clare. “Even though I will be spending much of my time at the Legislature, I will be back in the riding frequently through the coming months and will be hosting a series of events throughout the riding and a town hall. Check in for updates – there’s much work to do.”
