Council received a presentation from Kathy Lewis, the President of the Outdoor Ice Society of Prince George. The society asked council to direct administration to develop an estimate and plans for refrigeration of the outdoor ice oval.
The ice oval has been in its current location since 2007 and is a not-for-profit registered society run by volunteers. Their request for refrigeration creates opportunity for the oval to be open more frequently.
Council voted in favour of administration developing an estimate of capital and operating costs and life-cycle funding of refrigeration, with options to include refrigeration in concrete.

Remember when the outdoor rink was just supposed to be something of enjoyment for everyone to enjoy when the weather permitted. Now it is turning into an expense and an entitlement for the speed skaters and various clubs of the city.
It was supposed to be free or by donation. Once they put refrigeration into it, we will be paying a designated fee for skating. Remember it was only supposed to be by donation.
Seems Council can wait for a period of time until people forget the original idea.
Thanks for jogging our memories Marie.
So what we have now is one group that wants to freeze the ground so they can skate all summer etc, and another group that wants to have a heated football field so that they can play football through out the winter months. Cost does not seem to enter into the equation. What next ??
