Baukin nets 23 as UNBC falls to UFV Saturday

Saturday night at Brownridge Court in Prince George, the UNBC Timberwolves (1-15) dropped a 94-65 decision to the University of Fraser Valley Cascades (9-9). Despite the loss it was another heroic offensive outing for UNBC’s Evgeny Baukin who led all scorers with 23 points. He did so without playing a second of the fourth quarter. He also added six boards and a pair of steals. On the winning side it was Dilveer Randhawa who led the way with 20 while Ismael Hernandez was next with 17. Dario Lopez added 13 rebounds for the Cascades who secured the weekend sweep of UNBC.

1st Quarter –

  • After 10 minutes it was a 27-14 lead for the Cascades.
  • UFV started the night on a 16-9 run which featured a pair of threes from Jake Willemsen.
  • Evgeny Baukin answered with six of the first nine for UNBC.
  • Dario Lopez finished the quarter with a team-high 10 for UFV.

2nd Quarter –

  • The Cascades extended their lead by eight in the second, outscoring UNBC 22-14.
  • Ismael Hernandez went off in the second for UFV, securing 11 of his team’s points. He shot five-for-six in the period, which included a three and a dunk. Diveer Randhawa added eight.
  • Bauking replicated his first-quarter totals with six more points for the hosts while Ainsley added four and Bias supplied three.
  • At half the score was 51-28 for the Cascades with UNBC’s Ainsley (4) and UFV’s Lopez (10) leading their respective teams in rebounding.

3rd Quarter –

  • Baukin was a one-man wrecking crew in the third for UNBC. The third-year forwarded added 11 more to his totals, giving him 23 points after three!
  • First-year big Miller Davies added six in the third.
  • UFV’s third-quarter star was Takeshi Croke who hit twice from deep on his way to eight points. Clay Kurtz added five.

4TH Quarter –

  • Evgeny Baukin and the other starters stayed on the bench in the fourth as Todd Jordan elected to give some of his younger players some valuable minutes.
  • Wesley Ainu’u took full advantage of that time and potted nine points while also snagging five boards.
  • Danilo Gonzalez and Marcus Nickles also found paydirt in the fourth for UNBC.
  • UFV’s fourth quarter leader was Randhawa with nine.

UNBC returns to action next weekend on the road at Trinity Western.
