Known offenders arrested, drugs and gun seized by police

Prince George RCMP located and arrested two known offenders on Monday, January 20, 2025, after the offenders fled from police.

Just before 11 a.m., officers were on routine patrol on the Hart Highway near Houghtaling Road when they observed a pickup truck committing several motor vehicle infractions. When police officers initiated a traffic stop with the vehicle, it fled at a high rate of speed from the police, despite the icy conditions on the roads.

Police officers did not pursue the vehicle, but instead began to patrol in areas near where they last observed it travelling. In a short matter of time the vehicle was located again. Officers successfully deployed a spike belt and the vehicle came to a stop a short distance later when it crashed into a snow bank while trying to further avoid police.

The driver and passenger, who are both known to police, were arrested for multiple offences. A search of the occupants and the vehicle located suspected fentanyl and drug paraphernalia as well as a loaded firearm and ammunition. The drugs and firearm were seized for analysis.

“Both suspects were subsequently released, pending the laboratory results of evidence seized, which is a standard practice when evidence requires testing by outside partner agencies,” said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.

The investigation remains ongoing.
