TWolves hit 11 threes en route to an afternoon road victory over TRU

Friday afternoon in Kamloops, the UNBC Timberwolves (4-9) kicked off their weekend in fine fashion with a 76-60 afternoon victory over the Thompson Rivers WolfPack (0-15). The TWolves collectively hit 11 threes – seven of which came in a 28-point second quarter. Amrit Manak led all UNBC scorers with a career-high 20 while Sveta Boykova chimed in with 16 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists, giving her a fourth double-double for the season. The TRU trio of Danijela Kovacevic (15), Priyanca Sundher (13) and Kate De La Mare (13) did the heavy lifting in response for the hosts. The victory proved vital for the TWolves as their victory helped them remain tied for the fifth playoff spot in the Pacific Division with UBCO.

1st Quarter:

  • TRU outscored UNBC by a 20-18 mark to kick off the game.
  • The duo of Sveta Boykova (7) and Viktoriia Filatova (6) supplied 13 of UNBC’s 18 points while Brynn Dergousoff and Sarah Kuklisin rounded out their scoring.
  • Boykova (4) and Filatova (3) combined for seven first quarter boards.
  • For TRU it was Allison Hansen leading the way with five points, including a buzzer-beating triple which gave TRU the lead through 10.

2nd Quarter:

  • The TWolves exploded for 28 second quarter points.
  • 21 of the above came on the strength of seven combined threes!
  • Amrit Manak drilled four of them while Filatova, Boykova and Claire Huang also hit from the beyond the arc.
  • Six of TRU’s 11 points in the second came from Kovacevic.
  • At half the TWolves had eight threes to their credit and a 46-31 lead.

3rd Quarter:

  • Both teams struggled to find paydirt in the third as UNBC outscored TRU by a slim 12-11 margin.
  • Filatova and Huang both connected from deep, giving UNBC 10 triples through 30 minutes.
  • Three of Boykova’s seven assists on the day came in the third.
  • Sundher led all TRU scorers with four points in the third – all of which came from the free-throw line.

 
4th Quarter:

  • The teams played the fourth quarter to an 18-18 draw.
  • Sarah Kuklisin produced a big quarter for the TWolves, netting nine points and going five-for-five from the charity stripe.
  • Amrit Manak’s fifth three of the day, and 11th for UNBC came in the fourth.
  • Katie De La Mare went three-for-three in the fourth for TRU, nabbing eight points in the process.
