
Friday night at TRU, the UNBC Timberwolves (1-12) dropped a 79-65 decision to the Thompson Rivers WolfPack (7-8). Dami Farinloye paced the TRU attack with a game-high 24 points and was five-for-eight from three. Asher Mayan (16) and Cyrus Harrison (10) also exceeded double digits for TRU.
For UNBC it was their veteran tandem of Evgeny Baukin (21) and Josh Gillespie (15) who did the heavy lifting offensively. Gillespie also grabbed a game-leading 11 rebounds to secure the double-double. Isaiah Bias had the third highest point totals for the TWolves with eight.
1st Quarter –
- The score showed 20-19 UNBC after one.
- A 9-4 run to start the day for UNBC thanks to four from Baukin, three from Pasquale and two from Gillespie.
- After a Baukin layup, and Marcus Wilson notched a pair of free-throws, forcing UNBC ahead 17-8.
- TRU chipped away at the deficit, forcing a 19-19 tie with less than 30 seconds to go. Dami Farinloye did a majority of the heavy-lifting, posting eight points and was two-of-three from deep.
- Baukin finished the first quarter leading UNBC with eight points while Josh Gillespie had grabbed two boards.
2nd Quarter –
- Both teams nabbed 15 points apiece in Quarte 2.
- TRU controlled the opening six minutes, staking themselves to an eight-point lead thanks to four points apiece from Asher Mayan and Steve Stinson.
- The TWolves erased the eight-point gap with a late 9-0 run of their own.
- Threes from Baukin, Gillespie and Bias ensured that the TWolves entered the tunnel at halftime ahead 35-34.
- For UNBC, Baukin led the way with 11 while Gillespie added seven points and six boards.
- For TRU, Farinloye had 11 at the half with Cyrus Harrison next with seven.
3rd Quarter –
- A 14-1 run for TRU to start the 3rd quarter which ultimately resulted in a 23-6 edge for the hosts.
- Farinloye, Asher Mayan and Evan Smith all recorded six points in the quarter for TRU.
- UNBC got two points apiece in the third from Baukin, Gillespie and Bias.
4th Quarter –
- UNBC outscored TRU by a 24-22 margin in the final quarter.
- Gillespie (2) and Baukin (1) teamed up for a trio of threes, and rode a wave of momentum that got the TWolves within 11.
- Bias, Miller Davies, Cam Lalli, Danilo Gonzalez and Wesley Ainu’u also found the scoresheet for UNBC in the final Q.
- Farinloye, TRU’s leading scorer, was key down the stretch for his side as he padded his stat line with eight more points on three-of-four shooting.
Tomorrow night at 6, the TWolves and WolfPack wrap up their weekend with their third and final clash of the season.
