
Saturday night in Prince George at Brownridge Court, the UNBC Timberwolves (3-9) dropped an 88-62 scores to the visiting Trinity Western Spartans (7-5). Shemaiah Abatayo paced the Trinity attack with a game-high 26 points while Cassidy Buchanan chimed in with 19. At the other end for UNBC, second-year guard Viktoriia Filatova scored a new career-high 20 points on seven-of-13 shooting. She also drained four threes. Sveta Boykova followed with 11 while first-year forward Avin Jahangiri supplied nine.
1st Quarter –
- UNBC outscored Trinity Western 21-14 in the opening quarter.
- Knowing that the third three of the game would give all students in attendance free pizza, the TWolves knew the assignment. Viktoriia Filatova, Yana Shupak and Sveta Boykova all hit from deep.
- Shupak, Boykova and Filatova each finished the first quarter with five points.
- Shemaiah Abatayo led all Spartans with five first-quarter points while Cassidy Buchanan potted four.
2nd Quarter –
- A much different story for the Spartans who outscored UNBC 23-10.
- 11 of Trinity Western’s 23 second quarter points came from Buchanan who finished the half with 15 points on six-of-13 from the field.
- Filatova led the charge for UNBC in the second with four points. She led the TWolves at half with nine points.
- On the glass, Boykova led the TWolves with four first-half rebounds while Jazmin Avila had eight at the half for Trinity Western.
- UNBC shot five-for-13 from deep in the first half while Trinity went just two-for-11.
3rd Quarter –
- The Spartans kept the pedal down in the third, outscoring UNBC 22-13.
- Blessing Ibekwe poured in six while Abatayo chimed in with five for the visitors.
- Filatova led the TWolves with five in the third, giving her a team-high 14 points through 30 minutes.
4th Quarter –
- The Spartans poured in 29 fourth quarter points, outscoring UNBC 29-18 in the process.
- Avin Jahangiri came off the bench and went off for UNBC. The first-year forward went four-for-five and ended the night with a new career best nine points.
- Filatova added six more to her totals to finish the night with 20 – giving the TWolves leading scorer a new career-high.
- Leading the way in the fourth for Trinity Western was Abatayo who shot a perfect four-for-four and was three-for-three from deep. Colette Van der Hoven added seven.
