Despite a sew career-best from Mesquita, the TWolves fall at home for the first time in 2024-25

Thursday night at Brownridge Court, the UNBC Timberwolves (3-8) dropped their first home game of the 2024-25 season. A 20-point effort from Tana Pankratz helped pace the visiting Victoria Vikes (6-5) to a 71-50 victory over the TWolves. Mimi Sigue (11) and Natalie Allison (10) also finished in double-digits offensively for the Vikes while the trio of Viktoriia Filatova (15), Bella Mesquita (13) and Sveta Boykova (11) led the way for UNBC. On the glass, Abigail Becker had 13 for Victoria while Boykova countered with eight for the hosts.
1st Quarter –

  • The Victoria Vikes outscored UNBC 24-16.
  • Bella Mesquita nailed back-to-back threes to open up an early 6-2 lead for UNBC. She led all TWolves with six first-quarter points.
  • Tana Pankratz roared out of the gates for Victoria with 11 first-quarter points – six of which came from the free-throw line.
  • Victoria started the night seven-for-14, while UNBC was seven-for-18. Victoria shot eight-of-10 from the stripe while UNBC went oh-for-one.

2nd Quarter –

  • Victoria outscored UNBC 13-12 and held a 37-28 advantage at the half.
  • Mesquita continued her hot hand for UNBC as she tacked on five more points in the second quarter, and was four-for-six from the field and three-for-four from three.
  • Seven different Vikes had registered points through the opening 20 minutes. Pankratz led all scorers at half with 13.
  • On the glass, Victoria’s Abigail Becker had nine first-half boards while Sveta Boykova had four in response to lead UNBC.

3rd Quarter –

  • Victoria outscored UNBC 16-13 to increase their overall lead to 53-41.
  • Pankratz added five more to her team-high point totals while Mimi Sigue also added five in the third.
  • The duo of Sveta Boykova (7) and VIktoriia Filatova (6) supplied the offense for UNBC in the third. All six of Filatova’s points came from three, while Boykova also drained one from deep.

4th Quarter –

  • Victoria outscored UNBC 18-9 in the final 10.
  • Natalie Allison led the way for the Vikes with seven points while five other Vikes found some offensive paydirt as well.
  • Bella Mesquita drained her final bucket of the night, helping her reach a new career high for points in a game (13).
  • Sarah Kuklisin returned from injury and found the scoresheet with a bucket in the fourth, as did Claire Huang and Sophia Fuller.

Up next for UNBC – A home clash with the Trinity Western Spartans on Saturday night at 5 p.m.
