Omineca Arts Centre adds new staff

The Omineca Arts Centre has appointed a new manager and executive assistant. This update to the staffing structure replaces the arts coordinator role to allow for extended hours, expanded programming, and enhanced community engagement.

Amy Smith,  the new manager, brings nine years of experience as a community programmer, artist, and musician. Recently relocated from Vancouver Island, Amy holds a BFA in Visual Arts from the University of Victoria and a Masters in Museum Education from UBC. She is passionate about using art to support education, mental health, and community, and is excited to work on the territories of the Tse’khene and Lheidli T’enneh.

Mallory McKinney will take on the role of executive assistant, working with the manager to support programs and operations. Mallory has a Fine Arts degree from the Victoria College of Art and brings over a decade of experience in various administrative and management roles. She excels in streamlining processes and supporting creative initiatives.

Staff will work closely with local artists to continue to host free community programs such as Beading Wednesdays and Creative Connect Thursdays, Coffee House Open Mics, other workshops and special events. Their efforts are crucial to fostering creativity in our community through diverse programming.

This expansion is made possible thanks to funding from the Vancouver Foundation and tentatively BC Arts Council.
