Canadian Junior Short Track Open this weekend at Kin 1

The Prince George Blizzard Speed Skating Club is gearing up to host the best 16– to18-year-old speed skaters in Canada this weekend for the Canadian Junior Short Track Open at Kin 1.

This is the first national speed skating competition to be hosted in Prince George since the 2015 Canada Winter Games.

For head coach Taryn Vansickle, “it’s very exciting that a national championship is coming back to Prince George after the success of the 2015 Canada Winter Games, and even more exci9ng that we have a local athlete competing.”

Skaters from across the country are making their way to Prince George this week. This competition serves as a qualifier for Canada Cup 1 in Sherbrooke and Canada Cup Junior Final in Calgary. Blizzard skater Pareesa Jones is one of them.

Jones will get the opportunity to skate on home ice in front of her friends alongside some of the best skaters in Canada. Vansickle is thrilled seeing high level athletes continuously being produced at the Blizzard Club and competing at national competitions.

PG Blizzard Club President James McIntosh hopes the public can stop by, help support the athletes, cheer them on, and experience some good high level speed skating.

Schedules will be posted on Instagram and Facebook. Spectators are welcome.
