Sima Festival 2025 – A winter celebration of art, community, and the environment in Terrace

The magic of winter is returning to Terrace. The third edition of the Sima Festival will take place from January 15th to 19th, 2025, with events extending to Hazelton, Kitselas, and Kitsumkalum. Organized by the Outdoor Artist Collective (OAC), this winter celebration brings together art, community engagement, and environmental advocacy to inspire meaningful change and creative expression.

This year’s festival will be packed with performances, hands-on workshops, community gatherings, outdoor activities, and artistic events, all aimed at sparking meaningful change right here at home. Whether you’re into art, storytelling, or want to experience the beauty of our local landscape in new ways, Sima is designed to bring us all together in a time of reflection and renewal. We’re proud to welcome back the iF3 International freeski film festival, featuring an incredible lineup of mountain films, and we are thrilled to have artists joining us from Vancouver, Montreal, and our own backyard.

Family Fun and Local Favorites!
Sima Festival is proud to offer activities for all ages, making it a true community celebration. Bring the whole family to enjoy the return of beloved events like the Ice Skating Dance Party and Dancing in the Dark. These festive, indoor and outdoor gatherings offer a chance to warm up with music, movement, and laughter, while reconnecting with the winter season in a fun and meaningful way.

We Need Your Help!
As a small community festival, Sima thrives on local involvement. We’re putting out a call for volunteers to help make this year’s event truly special. Whether you have a few hours to give or want to be part of the festival creatively, there are plenty of ways to get involved!

Why Sima?
Sima, a word inspired by the combination of “soul” and “anima,” also represents the lowest layer of the Earth’s crust, linking ocean floors to land. At its core, the festival is about reconnecting with winter—honoring it as a time for slowing down, reflecting, and gathering. We believe in the power of creativity to bring about meaningful social change, to foster a deeper connection with our environment, and to celebrate this season that touches all our lives.

With the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, Rollyworks and our local partners — the Terrace Public Library, Skeena Diversity Society, Skeena Wild Conservation Trust, The Garage Community Center, artterra, Terrace Pride Pals, CoastMountain College, the City of Terrace, Terrace Music Scene Association, and the Terrace Art Gallery —we’re excited to bring you another inspiring edition of Sima Festival.

This festival is a chance for us all to reconnect with each other, share our stories, and reflect on what matters most to us as a community, especially in these darker winter months. So, mark your calendars, spread the word, and stay tuned for more details when we release the full festival program in December!
