Injured deer near Domano and Moriarty put down

If you were in College Heights last night and heard a gunshot around 6:30 p.m., don’t be alarmed. RCMP officers put down a deer that had been hit by a car.

The deer was hit near the intersection of Domano Blvd.,  Moriarty Crescent and Albert Place. According to witnesses, the deer was still alive but had one of its antlers hanging from its head. It was quite disoriented and going back and forth across both sides of the road. A Good Samaritan called the police and was slowing traffic on both sides of the road in order to avoid any other collisions with the animal. Another man stopped and also helped slow the traffic.

It was soon determined the deer was injured more severely than a broken antler and would likely succumb to its injuries.

The RCMP officer arrived and put the deer down.
