The Prince George Spruce Kings got a pair of goals from Lucas Veilleux and a 28-save performance from Carter Wishart in a 5-1 victory Friday night at the Hap Parker Arena in Powell River.
After a scoreless first period, Veilleux drove to the net through a pair of defensemen and Ethan Montroy’s centering pass was right on the tape to be deflected past Vincent Lamberti. Linden Makow drew the second assist. Shots were 22-11 Powell River after 40 minutes.
The Spruce Kings got a break in the middle frame as Evan Bellamy dumped the puck around behind the net, which escaped Lamberti and went to Veilleux on the half wall. A quick shot towards the goal beat the Powell River netminder and made it 2-0.
Powell River would get one back a few minutes later as a Wyatt Davis shot redirected to Marek Beaudoin who beat Wishart to make it 2-1.
Two minutes later, Will Moore took a pass from Brogan McNeil and walked into the slot and snapped one past Lamberti for his first goal in his first game as a Spruce King.
Carter Hesselgrave made it 4-1 as his shot from the bottom of the right circle went right under the bar with 4:45 remaining.
Linden Makow scored into an empty net to seal the deal.
