Starting tomorrow, October 16, parking regulations in the Hospital Zone near the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia (UHNBC) will undergo changes as part of a strategy to address on-street parking challenges. These updates follow a review and decision made on July 8 by council.
As part of the proposed changes, two-hour free parking will remain in areas immediately surrounding key medical facilities affected by construction of the new parkade, including UHNBC, the Northern Interior Health Unit, and others. This aims to provide continued parking access for short-term visitors and patients.
In addition to the continued availability of free parking, the City is introducing pay parking in the remaining streets within the Hospital Zone. Using the HotSpot parking app, individuals will be able to pay $1 per hour or $7 for an entire day. These rates are aligned with parking fees across the city to ensure consistency and fairness.
A detailed map illustrating the two-hour free parking areas and the new HotSpot pay parking zones is available for public viewing.
People who live in the hospital zone can apply for a residential parking permit by following the directions on our website. Permits purchased now will be valid through to December 2025. If you are a landlord, please ensure your tenants have a permit if they park on the street.
The City of Prince George is committed to balancing the need for accessible parking with the increasing demand for on-street parking near the hospital. These proposed measures are aimed at improving turnover and availability while maintaining free access for short-term visits to medical facilities.
How to Use the HotSpot App?
Visitors can download the HotSpot mobile app from the Apple App Store or Google Play, create an account, and enter their vehicle details. Payment for parking can then be made conveniently via smartphone. Please follow the posted signs in the area for further instructions.

There are some people that do not have use of a cell phone – how must they pay for parking?
Still waiting to hear the reasoning behind charging people to park on the street a fee when they already pay taxes to the City of PG. Also waiting to hear where else the City of PG is charging people to pay to park in front of their own homes? Also, would like to see how much money the City of PG is thinking they will earn by this as it seems to me that it will cost the City of PG more to hire and pay someone to enforce that new idea.
