Cariboo Regional District greenlights next steps with regional trails and parks proposal

What started as a long discussion ended with the Cariboo Regional District taking its first step towards authorizing a new regional service. The board ratified an initial decision made at its September 5 Committee of the Whole Meeting to confirm the CRD’s desire to implement a regional trails and parks service and discuss the proposal with each municipal council to seek their participation. A regional trails and parks service would enhance the CRD’s ability to not only build trails in the region, but also maintain existing trails. Over the last 20 years, the CRD has invested significant funds to develop this trail network.

Once the CRD has shared the proposal with the Councils of each of the CRD’s four municipal members, and participation confirmed, the CRD would then proceed with public engagement. Implementation of a final service remains far down the road, but a key factor will be the results of that public engagement process, as implementation is subject to the findings of it. More information about the proposed service and future public engagement opportunities will be made available in 2025.
