Over the past week the Prince George Fire Centre has settled into unseasonably warm and dry conditions that are expected to continue through the weekend. From this weather pattern an increase in fire activity on some of the existing wildfires within the region has been noted. Crews and resources remain actively engaged with existing fires and are prepared to respond to new starts as they are discovered.
While this activity is creating some localized smoke, most of the smoke in the region is the result of an easterly flow pushing smoke from neighbouring fires into the fire centre, particularly the Omineca and Peace regions. These conditions will potentially remain into the weekend or until the return to a more seasonal weather pattern that is forecast for Sunday evening
