BC United critical of Conservative candidate Rachael Weber’s Facebook posts about 5G networks

Rachael Weber

BC United is going after Prince George-Mackenzie Conservative candidate Rachael Weber.

The party has discovered a 2020 Facebook post by Weber in which she shared posts claiming 5G cell towers are “genocidal weapons” and the cause of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2020, Weber shared multiple Facebook posts, including one from the page “STOP 5G GENOCIDE” that made claims “EMF’s + 60ghz (5G) IS A WEAPON!”. A separate post claimed that 5G will “mess with the absorption of oxygen in the human body” and is linked to the spread of coronavirus.

“There is no other way to describe the views of (Conservative leader) John Rustad’s candidate for Prince George-Mackenzie other than downright weird,” said Mike Bernier, BC United MLA for Peace River South, in a news release. “This is the sixth consecutive candidate from John Rustad’s team that has come under fire for extremist views and conspiracy theories. Rustad must explain why he continues to recruit and promote candidates that deny science and subscribe to weird theories from the darkest corners of the internet.”

Despite these conspiracy theories having been thoroughly debunked, the posts remain live on Weber’s Facebook page.

“These conspiracy theorists are the foundation of John Rustad’s party. Are people with these views really who you want in government? John Rustad’s party is not a conservative party, it is a conspiracy party,” said Bernier.

Rustad, however, is standing by Weber.

“I support all of our candidates and the work that they’re doing,” Rustad told CKPG News. “I’m not going to allow cancel culture to take root in this province, I think it’s done too much damage. It’s been a significant part of the left wing’s tools in terms of attacking people and going away from the real issues that are out there such as the overdoses we’ve been seeing, safe supply and decriminalization and the damage that’s done.

“… So, I understand that candidates share information on things like social media, however what I look at is the work that people do and the approach that they take. And quite frankly, it’s disappointing to see both BC United and the NDP participating in cancel culture.”
