I took a bit of a chance Sunday morning, and went out for a walk.
The forecast was possible showers and the skies did look a little ominous, but I decided to risk it.
I didn’t figure on it being a long walk, and it wasn’t, but it was about 30 minutes and I wasn’t strolling, I was walking at a decent pace.
Saw a few people while I was out and, as usual, even though we didn’t know each other, we said “good morning” as we passed.
One of the women had a dog and they were actually setting a fairly good pace, more of a jog than a run, but definitely faster than I was going.
The dog seemed to be enjoying itself and just gave me a quick glance as they went by. No, “please give me a pat,” or (thankfully) “your leg looks rather tasty.”
I also saw a couple of birds on the route. A couple of crows, one of whom, like the dog, just kind of eyeballed me as I went by. The other crow was enjoying what looked like some spilled french fries in the middle of the road. A car came along, but the crow simply hopped a couple of times until it was in the bike lane, and waited there for the car to pass before resuming its breakfast.
Heard a couple of other birds, but couldn’t see them or identify them.
There wasn’t much traffic on the roads at that hour on a Sunday morning, but I did hear a siren off in the distance. It wasn’t getting closer, so I didn’t start looking around to see what kind of emergency vehicle it was.
One other thing I noticed was the amount of fresh pavement I was walking on. It’s been a great summer for the city crews to get work done on the streets, and it shows.
Some of the streets still need to have the lines painted on them, but since they were in residential areas, it may not have been a super-high priority.
As I walked, I was keeping an eye on the skies to see if it was going to start raining. There were a few drops at one point when I was about halfway through, but nothing even really resembling a shower.
I was not surprised the rain came about halfway through the walk, since that’s when it normally seems to happen, where it doesn’t matter whether you keep going or turn around, you’re going to get just as wet.
I used to make mental bets with myself on whether it would rain when I was out for a walk, but I had to give it up.
I kept losing my mind on the bets.
